Hyderabad, March 9 The Andhra Pradesh Government has proposed to set aside upto Rs 4,000 crore to provide bonus to farmers for the production of foodgrains.

Mooting the idea, the Chief Minister, Dr Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy, also suggested that 10 per cent bonus could be given to the farmers on the basis of their sale of foodgrains to registered buyers who have TIN(Tax Index Numbers).

The Chief Minister reviewed these proposals and various issues connected with it. He said all these issues should be thoroughly discussed in a brainstorming session by the officials concerned along with the Advisor to the Government on Agriculture.

Dr Reddy wanted a comprehensive concept paper by next Saturday.

This would be reviewed and discussed in detail before being presented to the Assembly, which is in session now for further discussion, an official release from the Chief Minister’s office said.

The Chief Minister reiterated his decision to help all the farmers, including the tenant farmers and those who might not be benefited by the loan waiver scheme announced for the farmers in the Government’s Union Budget presented on February 29.

Dr Reddy said he mooted the idea of bonus for farmers based on each of their produce , as this would not only help boost the agricultural production but also stabilise the prices of foodgrains in the market.

He said his idea was to get reasonable prices for the consumers and remunerative prices for the farmers. However, he wanted some type of regulatory authority or commission to decide over the percentage of bonus for the various agricultural produce.
