Opinion - Letters
Mergers and acquisitions

This is with reference to the article on mergers and acquisitions (Business line, March 7). The article glorifies the role of Indian entrepreneurs in the global mergers and acquisitions scene.

But apart from the psychological satisfaction that Indian companies are acquiring foreign firms, does the act create wealth in India?

No doubt, the entrepreneurs may get returns for their investment, which again adds to their personal wealth.

This action may not create enough employment opportunities for Indians in those entities. If similar investment is made in India and employment opportunities increase on account of such investments, the move can be appreciated.
