In line with Union Budget, says KCCI

Mangalore, March 10 The Kanara Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KCCI) has said that the Karnataka Budget for 2008-09, which was presented in Parliament on Monday, is almost in line with the Central Budget.

Mr K. Narasimha Prabhu, President of KCCI, told Business Line that the focus of the budget is on agriculture, rural development, irrigation and education.

Referring to the allocation of around Rs 100 crore for expediting works for setting up and upgrading 10 airports in the State, he said this amount was not enough for these airports.

The budget proposes to utilise this fund for airports in Mangalore, Mysore, Hubli, Bijapur, Shimoga, Hassan, Gulbarga, Karwar, Bidar and Belgaum. Enough money should be granted for developmental works at Mangalore airport, he said.

While an amount of Rs 240 crore has been earmarked for important roads in and around Bangalore in the budget, major district roads in the State have been allocated Rs 300 crore. The amount for road development should have been increased, he said.

“There is no incentive for the industry sector in the budget. However, a clear picture on this can emerge only after going through the fine print of the budget,” Mr Prabhu said.
