‘Connect Coimbatore’ on March 14

Our Bureau

Coimbatore, March 10 The 8th edition of ‘Connect Coimbatore 2008’, organised jointly by CII Coimbatore zone, ELCOT and STPI is slated for March 14 at The Residency here.

The theme of the event is ‘Business Opportunities in ICT (Information and Communication Technology) Sector in emerging IT centres’.

Briefing presspersons, the ICT Panel Convenor, Mr J. Balamurugan, said the engineering companies in this region should take advantage of the huge investments made by hardware companies in Chennai, by adding value to their processes.

ICT would be a major determinant in overcoming the various socio economic disparities. With global ICT supply bases shifting to emerging economies, there is a growing demand for ICT products and services, he said and observed that Coimbatore was yet to exploit the opportunities in the ICT space despite being a manufacturing hub.

Answering a query, he said “rather than shifting to IT, it would be better to look at how IT can help improve the productivity and efficiency of the manufacturing sector here.”

The event is expected to be inaugurated by the IT Secretary, Dr C Chandramouli.
