Firm trend at Kochi tea auction

There was good a general demand for the 8.86 lakh kg of dust tea on offer at the Kochi Tea Auction. High priced CTCs were barely steady while medium and below medium CTC remained fully firm to dearer by Re 1-Rs 2. Orthodox high grown dusts were steady even as prices of medium orthodox dust varieties increased by Re 1-Rs 2. Blenders were fairly active on good CTCs while medium CTC witnessed good export enquiry. Loose tea trade was also fairly active at the auction.

Best CTC varieties fetched Rs 63-75, medium CTC quoted Rs 58-64 and below medium ranged at Rs 50-55. High grown BOPD varieties quoted Rs 104-112 and medium BOPD was at Rs 50-52.

Leaf Sale

There was 2.37 lakh kg of leaf tea on offer at the auction. High grown broken and whole leaf grades remained fully firm to occasionally dearer. Other high grown varieties remained barely steady. Medium primary orthodox grades were firm to dearer. Medium whole leaf grades and plain orthodox were also dearer. CTC varieties were up by Rs 1-3. There was good export enquiry for both CTC and orthodox grades.

Best Nilgiri varieties fetched Rs 90-150, medium orthodox was at Rs 65-85 and plain orthodox quoted Rs 45-60. Best CTC leaf fetched Rs 57-62 and medium CTC was at Rs 50-55.

Top Prices

In the dust category, Kodanad BOPD fetched the top price at Rs 112, followed by Parkside BOPDS at Rs 104, Pasuparai FD at Rs 89 and Pasuparai SFD at Rs 85. In the leaf category Pascoes Woodlands BOP fetched the top price at Rs 155, followed by Chamraj FOP at Rs 140, Glendale CLOP at Rs 130 and Chamraj FPS at Rs 129.
