Pilferage move led to oil slick

Kolkata, March 11

Pilferage attempt on Haldia-Barauni crude pipeline of IndianOil led to the oil slick at Haldia in West Bengal. According to company sources, the pilferage was noticed at Haldia Link road and was immediately brought under control. The pipeline was repaired and was brought back into operation. The usage of crude oil as a furnace oil makes such pilferage attempts common across the country. In 2007, due to a similar attempt on the same crude pipeline a fire broke out at Sutahata near Haldia. Haldia Barauni pipeline feeds crude imported at Haldia port to Haldia and Barauni (Bihar) refineries of IOC. - Our Bureau
