New Products & Services Info-Tech - Telecommunications Samsung unveils 5 mobile models, ropes in Aamir Khan Our Bureau Mumbai, March 12 Samsung Telecommunications India, a 100 per cent subsidiary of Samsung Electronics of Korea, on Wednesday announced the launch of five new mobile handset models. It also announced actor Aamir Khan as the brand ambassador for Samsung mobile phones in India. The company plans to leverage Aamir Khan in its brand advertisements, as well as product advertising for mobile phones, with its new brand positioning tagline being —‘Next is what?’ Mr Sunil Dutt, Country Head (Mobile Business) of Samsung India Electronics Ltd, said the new handset range would target consumers across the multi-media (imaging and music), business lifestyles and popular segments. “We plan to launch 13 more models in the course of the next two to three months,” he told Business Line. With the launch of the five models, Samsung mobile phones now are priced in the range of Rs 1,700 to Rs 28,000. The new models that will be launched in the next few months will include sets with a higher price tag. Mr Dutt said the company is also focusing on expanding its reach to tap the growing mobile market in India, aiming at doubling its market share from the present seven per cent to 15 per cent in the GSM space in 2008. The company currently operates a manufacturing facility at Noida, with a capacity of six million units per annum. “As our market share grows with the launch of the new models, we will ramp up our production capacity.
