SonoSite expands Kerala operations

Our Bureau

Thiruvananthapuram, March 13 SonoSite India, a subsidiary of the US-based SonoSite Inc, is expanding its operations in Kerala.

The company has appointed distributors in Thiruvananthapuram and Kochi, said Mr Pavan Behl, Country Manager, SonoSite India Pvt Ltd. The company is also looking at appointing a distributor for the northern districts of the State, he added.

The hand-carried ultrasound scanners, manufactured by the company, are especially useful in medical emergency rooms, intensive care units and critical care units, he claimed. This is because they help save time as the “scanning system goes to the patient,” he explained.

In the one year, since the Indian subsidiary started operations, the company has sold 150 hand-carried scanning systems in the country. Major hospitals across India have bought the systems, he said. The systems can operate on battery power for up to four hours, thus making it possible to use them in locations such as medical camps, he added.
