New Delhi, March 13 PC maker Lenovo Group on Thursday launched a new consumer PC brand ‘Idea’, which includes IdeaPad notebooks and IdeaCentre desktops. The new consumer-oriented brand of notebooks and desktops will complement Lenovo’s business-oriented products — ThinkPad notebooks and ThinkCentre desktops.

“We are bringing Lenovo’s expertise in design and engineering to consumers with our Idea-branded PCs. Lenovo designed Idea PCs for the way people live and work, with cutting-edge features,” Mr Liu Jun, Senior Vice-President (consumer business group), Lenovo, said.

The company has more than 100 exclusive stores in the country and plans to open more stores to increase its retail presence.

The new range of notebooks include IdeaPad Y710, IdeaPad Y510 and IdeaPad U110, while the desktop range includes IdeaCentre K 200 and IdeaCentre Q200. The company plans to roll-out its marketing campaign called ‘Ideas Everywhere’, featuring its brand ambassadors Saif Ali Khan and Soha Ali Khan, in April this year.

Meanwhile, Lenovo Group is evaluating options for setting up a research and development centre in India, company officials said on Thursday.

“We are constantly evaluating opportunities (for a centre),” the Lenovo India Managing Director, Mr Amar Babu, told newspersons.

“When we bump up our business here, may be,” added Mr Liu Jun, Lenovo Senior Vice-President.

The Chinese firm has said it would focus overseas investment on emerging markets such as India, Brazil, Mexico, West Asia and Eastern Europe, where computer penetration is low.
