Steel meet begins in Vizag today

Visakhapatnam, March 13

A two-day conference on steel - Global Steel Conference 2020 - begins here on Friday at Hotel Taj Residency at 10 a.m, according to a press release issued by Steel and Metallurgy, a Kolkata-based magazine organising the event. The release says that 150 delegates from different steel companies in India and abroad will participate in the event and the key-note address will be delivered by the former CMD of the Visakhapatnam steel plant who is presently the Joint Managing Director of JSW Steel Ltd and CEO, Mr Y. Sivasagara Rao. The steel policy of the Union Government envisages production of 200 million tonnes of steel by 2020 and the focus of the seminar will be on achieving, and even surpassing, the target. "BRIC (Brazil, Russia, India and China) accounted for 41 per cent of the global steel demand in 2006 and there was an increase of 12.8 per cent in 2007.
