TN developing tourism spots

Nagapattinam, March 14 About 4.89 crore domestic and 17.50 lakh foreign tourists visited various tourist spots in Tamil Nadu last year, said the Commissioner of Tourism and Managing Director of Tamil Nadu Tourism Development Corporation, Mr M. Rajaram, here on Friday.

Mr Rajaram, while addressing a tourism awareness campaign meeting, said that the State Government had been implementing several projects to develop the tourist spots at a cost of Rs 45 crore. The awareness campaign has been conducted in eight districts so far, he said.

The District Collector, Mr Tenkasi S. Jawahar, said that there was good scope for tourism development in Nagapattinam district where major pilgrimage centres were situated. He said that several projects were being implemented at a cost of Rs 5 crore.
