Our Bureau

Chennai, March 14 Paramount Airways expects to be a national player in two years. At present, the airline operates (60 flights a day) in south India.

At a press conference here, the airline’s Managing Director, Mr M. Thiagarajan, said that it would get two more aircraft this summer, which would be used to increase flights out of Tiruchi and Madurai. More aircraft are expected to be inducted later this year, when Paramount would connect up Kozhikode and Mangalore.

By the end of the year, it would link up Pune and other cities in western India. Next year, it would go North. By 2010, “we will be a national player,” Mr Thiagarajan said.

Mr Thiagarajan said that the airline, which is a full-service provider, is profitable. He said that the airlines’ services are fully priced, uses the more fuel-efficient Embraer jets and operates shorter segments which ensure higher uptime. Besides, it operates smaller aircraft, fuel for which attracts a lower central sales tax.

Award

Meanwhile, Paramount Airways has been awarded The Century International Quality Era award at the International Quality Convention in Geneva, Switzerland. The award recognises the company’s contribution to quality, continuous improvement and customer satisfaction, says a press release from Paramount.
