Bill to amend benami transactions Act on cards

Our Bureau

New Delhi, March 15 The Government is preparing a draft Bill and a Cabinet note to bring amendments to the Benami Transaction (Prohibition) Act 1988. This was stated by Mr S.S. Palanimanickam, Minister of State for Finance, in a written reply in the Lok Sabha.

He said the Benami Transaction (Prohibition) Act 1988 could not be implemented as it contained “grave infirmities”.

The areas have been discussed with the Law Ministry and sorted out in consultation with them. It was also specified that rules for implementing the Act could be framed only after amending certain provisions of the legislation.
