Build on IT strengths: Infosys CEO

Mr S. Gopalakrishnan

Thiruvananthapuram, March 16

India should build on its current advantages in information technology by focusing on areas such as IT policies, infrastructure and education, said Mr S. Gopalakrishnan, CEO, Infosys. Speaking at the valedictory session of the Kerala IT.com exhibition at Technopark in Thiruvananthapuram on Saturday, he said that investments must also be made in IT, including the domestic IT industry and in promoting home-grown IT companies. Kerala has quietly created an IT industry and has become one of the emerging IT destinations in India, he added. Addressing the gathering, the Kerala Law Minister, Mr M. Vijayakumar, said that Thiruvananthapuram is set to emerge as an ‘IT corridor’. Besides the Technopark, projects such as the proposed Technocity and the international convention centre will add to city’s development as a major centre of the IT industry. The State Government is planning to set up a sports facility and stadium of international standards near the Technopark, he added.
