Kolkata, March 16 Medica Synergie Pvt Ltd, engaged in the healthcare sector, is developing and implementing District Health Action Plans under the National Rural Health Mission in Tripura, Meghalaya, Sikkim and Bihar.

The company has firmed up plans to set up two super specialty hospitals in Kolkata and Asansol, in West Bengal, envisaging total investment of Rs 165 crore. The company, which is already running a 125-bed hospital in Siliguri in North Bengal, has also firmed up plans to soon open a stand-alone ENT hospital here, estimated to cost Rs 5 crore.

Talking to Business Line, Dr Alex Kuruvilla, President & CEO of Medica Synergie, said while a 500-bed hospital would be set up on the Eastern Metropolitan Bypass in Kolkata, another 150-bed hospital would come up in Asansol. The investment required would be generated from internal accruals and debt. Both the hospitals are expected to be operational within the next 12 months.

Pointing out that nearly 70 per cent of the healthcare infrastructure in India was still in the government sector, Dr Kuruvilla said primary and secondary healthcare facilities in the districts were underutilised. He said since infrastructure in the tertiary care hospitals was “more-than-optimally utilised”, the need of the hour was to set up more referral hospitals.

advisory services

Medica Synergie provides a range of advisory services in areas such as public health, hospital management, quality and accreditation, research and capacity building, health insurance, tele-health and tele-medicine (offered directly) and bio-medical waste management. The company also plans to roll out retail pharmacies under the ‘Medica Health Shoppe’ umbrella across the country in the next few years, each entailing an investment of Rs 15-20 lakh, he said.
