Textile units unhappy over peak-hour power curbs

Our Bureau

Coimbatore, March 16 The restriction on power supply between 6 and 10 p.m. will severely affect industrial production and jobs, the South India Small Spinners Association (Sisspa) has said.

Already faced with recessionary conditions, the textile industry in Tamil Nadu is unable to maintain normal production levels due to the one-day power holiday each week.

The State electricity board’s direction to disallow use of grid power during peak hours will only worsen their difficulties, Sisspa said.

Most textile units in the State have deployed huge capital borrowed from banks; the adverse operating conditions will cause financial difficulties and default in repayment of loans, Sisspa President Mr R. Kuppusamy said. He wanted the Tamil Nadu Government to ensure power supply at all times, barring days on which the agreed ‘power holidays’ would be in vogue.
