Our Bureau

Hyderabad, March 17 There is a need to create a talent pool to tap the growing potential in contract research in pharmaceuticals and biotech industry, according to Dr Sivalinga Prasad Vasireddi, Managing Director, Vimta Labs Ltd.

In his keynote address at the inaugural session of a one-day seminar on ‘Contract Research in Pharma and Biotech Industry: Scope and Opportunities’ at the Indian Institute of Chemical Technology (IICT) here on Monday, Dr Vasireddi said there was lot of inadequacy of trained manpower in the contract research industry, which had grown 43 per cent in the last fiscal year alone.

“We need to build the right resources with training and develop and validate concepts,” he said.

The biopharmaceuticals companies in the developed nations had been increasing their R&D outsourcing and about 1/3 of the R&D process from the US and Europe could be outsourced over a period of time, he observed.

Dr A.V. Rama Rao, Chairman and Managing Director, Avra Laboratories Ltd, said academia and industry need to work together to translate technology into commercial enterprise.
