Eastern Railway traffic up 5.28%

Kolkata, March 17

Eastern Railway carried 83.99 crores of passengers during the period April 2007 to February 2008, against 79.98 crores carried during the corresponding period of the last financial year. Thus, an increase of 5.28 per cent registered this year over the last year, says a press release. Earnings from passenger traffic in the same period have also increased to Rs 1054.65 crore against Rs 905.15 crore - a 16.52-per cent growth. Meanwhile, South Eastern Railway (SER) has introduced laptop and mobile charging facility in the AC and sleeper coaches being run by it. Altogether, 146 AC coaches and 537 sleeper coaches have been turned out from the Kharagpur workshop this year with this amenity, says a SER Press release. - Our Bureau
