Guthpa lift irrigation scheme inaugurated

To bring around 38,700 acres of land under irrigation

Hyderabad, March 18 The Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister, Dr Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy, on Tuesday inaugurated the Guthpa Lift Irrigation Scheme conceived to irrigate 15,700 hectares by a lift cum irrigation canal.

The project has been implemented by a group of corporates with Kirloskar Brothers Ltd (KBL), the largest pump manufacturer and turnkey contractor.

The scheme is expected to provide relief to drought-prone areas near Nandipet Mandal and the Nizamabad district of Andhra Pradesh.

Koya and Co, Indian Hume Pipe Co, Bhooratanam Construction, and Taher Ali Industries were the other companies involved, according to a press release from KBL. KBL was responsible for the complete system engineering including designe, engineering, supply, installation, testing and commissioning of the electro-mechanical package, it said.

The scheme is envisaged to lift water from the foreshore of Sri Rama Sagar Project and bring 38,700 acres of land under irrigation.
