Actor Vijay stars for Chennai Super Kings

Our Bureau

Chennai, March 18 India Cements Ltd on Tuesday formally introduced actor Vijay as the brand ambassador of its IPL Chennai cricket team — the Chennai Super Kings.

At a function here, Mr T.S. Raghupathy, Executive President, India Cements Ltd, said that cricket had evolved as a source of entertainment for the whole family. It is not just cricket but a day out for the family. Roping in a young and popular star like Vijay from the Tamil film industry strengthens this value.

On the sponsorships and revenue for India Cements, Mr Raghupathy said the company is “pretty well tied up, revenues-wise.” The main sponsors are to be finalised in the next few days and as such, Mr Raghupathy did not want to disclose who the possible sponsors could be. Also, the company has big plans in terms of merchandise sales, apart from fixed sources such as revenue sharing with BCCI and the gate collections.

Mr V.B. Chandrasekhar, player coordinator, Chennai Super Kings, said that the team has a perfect mix of dashers, entertainers and young talent captained by M.S. Dhoni. The team includes Mathew Hayden and Mike Hussey of Australia, Stephen Fleming and Jacob Oram of New Zealand, Makhaya Ntini and Albie Norket from South Africa, Muralitharan of Sri Lanka, and Indian players Suresh Raina and Joginder Sharma.

The team that plays a match would also include a few of the six youngsters: S. Badrinath, R. Ashwin, Abinav Mukund, Vidyut Sivaramakrishnan, Amarnath and Einstein.
