New Projects MGM Group investing Rs 100 cr to expand liquor biz Our Bureau Hyderabad, March 19 Chennai-based MGM Group is planning to invest over Rs 100 crore in expanding its distillation and bottling plants in Chennai and Hyderabad. Eyeing AcquisitionsSouthern Agrifurane Industries Ltd (SAFL), the Group’s liquor business company, is also looking at acquisitions in a few States including Andhra Pradesh for expanding its markets. The Managing Director of SAFL, Mr A.K.M.A. Shamsuddin, said the company has firmed up plans to go overseas and has identified the US and the Far-East countries to begin with. Talking to newspersons at the launch of its new premium-whisky brand ‘Royal Hawk’ here on Wednesday, Mr Shamsuddin said the Group’s liquor business accounts for Rs 400 crore out of the total turnover of Rs 1,200 crore. Capacity Ramp upSAFL is also ramping up its capacities subsequent to its recent entry into West Bengal, Assam, Meghalaya, Orissa and Jharkand. In Andhra Pradesh where SAFL acquired a distillery a few years ago, the company plans to produce about 1.2 lakh cases of the premier whisky (priced at Rs 307 in A.P.) per month. Mr Shamshuddin said, “We want to create the highest value for the customers at the lowest price.” The MGM Group has presence in logistics, amusement parks, hotels and resorts as well.
