Overseas Investments States - Tamil Nadu LifeLine plans expansion abroad Our Bureau Chennai, March 19 The LifeLine Group, a Chennai-based hospital chain, has entered in to an agreement with the Government of Zambia to set up a hospital there. Addressing a press conference, Dr J.S. Rajkumar, Chairman, LifeLine Group, said that the Zambian Government has agreed to provide the land and building with LifeLine providing the equipment and personnel. The company will invest over Rs 40 crore along with an investor in Zambia. It would be a 100-bed hospital with a team of 300 medical personnel most of them from India. Over 20 per cent of the workforce would be Zambian, he said. The Government has assured that it would support the hospital and promote it in the region, including in the Democratic Republic of Congo, Angola, Zimbabwe, Tanzania, Malawi and Namibia. LifeLine would also train in India medical personnel from the University of Teaching Hospital, Ndoia Central and Kitwe Central Hospitals, Zambia. LifeLine also hopes to expand its operations with a further investment of Rs 40 crore, which would involve setting up a nursing college, Dr Rajkumar said. The LifeLine group of hospitals includes three hospitals in Chennai including a 225-bed multi speciality hospital, apart from a 24-hour clinic.
