AP energy demand rises by 15 mu per day

Our Bureau

Hyderabad, March 19

With the ongoing rabi crop season and temperature going up, the State is witness to significantly higher power consumption with the average usage going up by about 15 million units a day.

The highest energy demand so far has been about 194.93 million units according to AP Transco.

The AP Transco today supplied 9,095 mega watts to meet with a peak demand both from the agriculture sector and other consumers.

To meet the growing demand, AP Transco is supplying about 190 million units a day since last week of February, by stepping up purchase from various Central generating stations and some neighbouring States. This is being complimented by running gas-based plants on high-cost fuel naphtha.

With the temperature too going up over the last couple of weeks, this has also added to higher levels of energy consumption from the domestic sector.

In a statement, AP Transco said that it is geared up to meet the increased demand and assured uninterrupted supply of power to consumers, particularly agriculture sector to ensure that the rabi crop is not affected.
