Coimbatore, March 20 A new district with the hosiery town of Tirupur as headquarters will be formed and an announcement in this regard was made on Thursday in the Assembly by the Tamil Nadu Finance Minister, Mr K. Anbalagan, while presenting the budget for 2008-09.

The Tirupur district will be created by carving out Coimbatore and the neighbouring Erode district. The formation of the district will usher in quick progress of the region and its industrial development, the Tirupur Exporters Association President, Mr A. Sakthivel, has said in a statement.
