Budget States - Tamil Nadu ‘Pro-farmer, people-friendly budget’ Our Bureau Chennai, March 20 Industry associations and chambers of commerce and industry have welcomed the Tamil Nadu budget for 2008-09. The Federation of Indian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (FICCI) has welcomed the decision to set up four more SEZs and the support for micro, small and medium sector enterprises. The release quoting the Chairman, FICCI Tamil Nadu State Council, described it as a pro-farmer and people-friendly budget. The reduction in interest on crop loans to 4 per cent, targeting a crop loan of Rs 1,500 crore, and plans to create farmer self-help groups were welcome features that would support rural development, the release said. The Federation of Indian Export Organisations said the budget would enable overall economic development of the State. It welcomed the measures to strengthen infrastructure and transportation, encouraging investments and supporting the overall development of a range of sectors including agriculture, fisheries, information technology and MSMEs.
