APTransco to invest Rs 4,498 cr

Our Bureau

Hyderabad, March 20 The Transmission Corporation of Andhra Pradesh (APTransco) is poised to invest about Rs 4,498 crore in improving the transmission system during the XI Plan (2007-2008 to 2011-2012).

In addition to this, the distribution companies have proposed to invest Rs 5,848 crore in the Plan period for various expansion projects, according to Ms Rachel Chatterjee, Chairperson and Managing Director of APTransco.

In a statement, Ms Chatterjee expressed happiness over APTransco receiving award for Best Transmission System for 2006-2007 from the Union Power Minister, Mr Sushil Kumar Shinde, today.

“With increased investments and better management practices, the overall capacity has been stepped up and this ensures supply of quality power to the last mile,” she observed.

The Transco is in the process of establishing thermo vision cameras to detect hotspots on the transmission lines and connecting links to various equipment in the sub-station and this enables experts to attend to the defects on live line without shutting down the system.

APTransco stated that it is the first transmission utility in the country to implement the Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) package aimed at improving the operational and managerial efficiencies.

This will regulate the financial and material management process of the organisation and help in timely tracking of the materials allocated and payments made.

This integrated software application enhances the data access and helps in decision making process and thereby deliver improved quality services, the CMD said.

The CMD said that APTransco is handling peak demands up to 9,100 MW and 198 million units a day with transmission losses as low as 4.1 per cent. This was possible because of expansion of transmission network.
