Research & Development Avesthagen begins bio-actives trials Bangalore, March 24 Avesthagen Ltd said it had begun phase III human clinical trials of seven plant bio-actives or ingredients used in its nutraceutical products. Manipal AcuNova Ltd is conducting the studies, starting with three anti-diabetic bio-actives Teestar, Aspand and Cincata, over the next couple of months. Avesthagen said pre-clinical studies have already validated the bio-actives to be safe and effective. Dr Villoo Morawala Patell, Founder & CMD, Avesthagen, said, “The ini tiation of this phase III human trial represents an important milestone for Avesthagen because it demonstrates the continued advancement of our product portfolio of novel therapeutics for widespread diseases. We are aggressively pursuing [their] phase III clinical development to establish the parameters of the clinical trial design that can lead to regulatory approval.” Last month, Avesthagen launched its seven bio-actives that go into its Avesta brand of nutraceuticals (or food supplements that act as medicine). The range of crackers and bars targets diabetes, cholesterol and bone depletion and the new products should be in the market shortly, a senior company official said. Avesthagen’s Bionutrition Division has prepared the bio-actives from medicinal plants selected from its proprietary database, AdePt. – Our Bureau More Stories on : Research & Development | Pharmaceuticals
