Supply Chain Management Kolkata port-Birganj ICD box freight rates raised Our Bureau Kolkata, March 24 The Container Corporation of India (Concor) has hiked freight rates on containers moving between Kolkata port (both Kolkata Dock System and Haldia dock) and Birganj inland container depot located in Nepal. For movement between Netaji Subhas dock of Kolkata Dock System and Birganj ICD, the revised rates will be as follows: up to 15 tonnes, the revised rate at Rs 19,514 per TEU will be up by Rs 1,245 per TEU. Between 15 tonnes and 20 tonnes, the new rate at Rs 21,070 per TEU will be up by Rs 1,245 per TEU and between 20 tonnes and 30 tonnes, at Rs 25,944 per TEU the revised rate will be up by Rs 1,660 per TEU. The rate for a 40-ft container (FEU) has been increased by Rs 1,090 to Rs 35,963 per FEU. The corresponding rates from Haldia dock will be: up to 15 tonnes, the revised rate will be Rs 23,844 per TEU or up by Rs 1,767 per TEU; between 15 tonnes and 20 tonnes, the revised rate will be Rs 25,267 per TEU or up by 1,634 per TEU and between 20 tonnes and 30 tonnes, Rs 30,709 per TEU or up by Rs 2,202 per TEU. For a 40-ft container, the revised rate at Rs 45,257 per FEU or up by Rs 2,898 per FEU. The above rates will cover rail transportation of loaded containers as well as empties on the route, handling of empties and the delivery of empties at the shipping line’s plot by road at Kolkata. The revised rates came into force from March 11. “The rate revision has taken place after more than two years,” observe Concor sources, pointing out that the road transportation would continue to be costlier by about Rs 10,000.
