Plea to allow coconut oil exports

Our Bureau

Kochi, March 25 The Coconut Development Board (CDB) has urged the Union Government to withdraw the ban on export of coconut oil.

The Centre has through a notification on March 17 banned export of edible oils, including coconut oil.

Prices competitive

The difference in the prices has narrowed down in recent months and as a result the Indian coconut oil has become competitive in the world market. Consequently, coconut oil was being shipped to the Gulf countries and Bangladesh, of late, it said.

The price of coconut oil, when compared with that of other edible oils, is low at below Rs 60 a kg.
