Shalby Hospitals to invest Rs 450 cr in India, abroad

Ahmedabad, March 25 Multi-speciality, tertiary care Shalby Hospitals Ltd will invest Rs 450 crore in the next five years to set up OPDs in eight cities of the world and 10 more clinics in the country to expand its reach to patients.

The profit-making hospital will fund its expansion plans with its internal accruals, Dr Vikram Shah, Chairman and Managing Director, told Business Line here.

The outstation centres would coordinate between foreign patients and the Ahmedabad-based hospital which plans to rope in travel agencies and other service providers as well to offer the patients a seamless travel-cum-treatment package.

The offices to be opened abroad would beat Dubai, Nairobi, Durban, London, Atlanta, New York, Los Angeles and Chicago.

The modern hospital, which currently has seven OPDs (clinics) in different cities of the country, is adding 10 more to provide facilities in tier II and III towns for registration of patients and their post-operative care for which they would not have to travel to Ahmedabad after surgery, Squadron Leader Arun Kaul (retd), Executive Director, said.

The hospital, which specialised in joint replacement surgery since its inception 15-year ago, was now conducting more than 2,500 surgeries per annum.

Its patients included 10 per cent foreigners and NRIs, mainly coming for joint replacement at competitive costs.

Its new multi-speciality facility here has 200-beds in a 1.80 lakh sq ft premises.
