IIM-Bangalore increases fee to Rs 4 lakh

Our Bureau

Bangalore, March 25 The Indian Institute of Management, Bangalore, said it has decided to hike its fee for PGP (Post Graduate Programme in Management) to Rs.4 lakhs for the year 2008-2009 from the present Rs 2.5 lakhs. When the students would go into the second year (2009-2010) they would have to pay Rs 5 lakhs.

This decision was taken at the board of directors meeting held on Tuesday at the campus.

Justifying this fee hike, Mr Pankaj Chandra, Director, IIMB, said increasing infrastructure cost was one of the reason for the hike.

He said the amount of scholarship paid would be increased to Rs 1.5 crore for 2008-2009 from Rs 91.13 lakhs. About 49 students were given scholarships in 2007-2008.

The new fee structure for IIMB is higher than the other IIMs. The Indian Institute of Management, Calcutta, hiked its fee for 2008-2009 by Rs 1 lakh to Rs 3 lakh last month. The Indian Institute of Management, Ahmedabad, is likely to hike its fee to Rs 3 lakh as well.
