Welcome move

The Sixth Pay Commission’s recommendation for substantial increase in the emoluments of government servants is, by and large, a welcome move. The recommendation for only three declared public holidays plus eight optional holidays is commendable.

One hopes this will be accepted by all parties and implemented.

This will, once and for all, do away with closure government offices and banks at the drop of a hat for many days, mitigating the common man’s inconvenience .

Another aspect that should be considered while accepting and implementing the report is to create monitoring bodies at all levels of administration, which should periodically monitor and evaluate every individual’s performance, award incentives and punishments accordingly.

The incompetent, inefficient and the corrupt should be shown the door. This is the only way to have a lean, mean, healthy and efficient administration.
