Infrastructure States - Andhra Pradesh AP to develop 8 regional airports Our Bureau Hyderabad, March 26 With the international airport at Shamshabad promising to emerge as a hub in the country, the Andhra Pradesh Government is planning to develop eight regional airports in the State that would act as feeders to the new airport. These airports would come at Nellore, Ongole, Ramagundam (Karimnagar), Kothagudem (Khammam), Kurnool, Tadepalligudem (West Godavari), Nizamabad and Badangi (Vizianagaram). Addressing the inaugural of the two-day international conclave on ‘Infrastructure Today’ here on Wednesday, Mr M. Venkata Ramana Rao, State Minister for Airports and Ports, said these airports would be taken up in public-private partnership model. The Government had already called for expression of interests for the development of these projects. “We hope to complete the process of selection of developers in three months,” he said. Besides, the Government is looking at constructing a greenfield international airport at Visakhapatnam. “These small airports would go a long way in providing connectivity to tier IV towns. They will trigger socio-economic growth of the regions surrounding the airport, besides acting as a feeder to the international airport,” he said. Andhra Pradesh holds a 13-per cent stake in the Rs 2,900-crore Rajiv Gandhi International Airport at Shamshabad. More Stories on : Infrastructure | Andhra Pradesh
