New Zealand has initiated the process for negotiating a free trade agreement (FTA) with India. Leading a business delegation to India, Mr Jim Anderton, Minister for Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry, said “The response for the FTA call has been tremendous. Both the countries have agreed to initiate a study on the benefits and drawbacks of FTA, based on which we can negotiate a deal.” The study is expected to be completed by the year end, the minister added. N ew Zealand can help in horticulture, dairy farming, and meat sector, and transfer well-researched technology to improve yield in agriculture. On the other hand India can tap highly-sophisticated New Zealand markets with

communication systems and electronic engineering equipment. —
