New tech to synchronise air traffic data

There’s good news for airlines and passengers. Aircraft hovering above busy airports to get a chance to land could become a thing of past.

Recognising the fact that airlines are being forced to consume huge quantities of oil and waste time making rounds around the city to find space for landing, the Ministry of Civil Aviation has decided to introduce a new technology at airports.

The ATC (Air Traffic Control) procedures in the country are undergoing a change that envisages entire management at one place.

“Thanks to this, when a clearance for take-off is given at one place, it will take into consideration the traffic situation at the destination airport,” Mr K.N. Shrivastava, Joint Secretary (Ministry of Civil Aviation) said.

The technology will synchronise the data of all ATCs in the country. “As of now, ATC, say in Hyderabad, wouldn’t know the traffic situation in Mumbai as it gives the go-ahead to an aircraft. This is resulting in the long wait-ins. The new technology will address this issue by bringing in the entire management to one place,” he said.
