Work begins on phase 2 of new Hyderabad airport

Our Bureau

Hyderabad, March 27 Even as the first phase of the Rs 2,900-crore Rajiv Gandhi International Airport begins operations last week, the promoters have already begun work on the next phase.

“We are finalising a master plan to develop the airport to handle 20 million passengers,” Mr A. Vishwanath, Vice-President (Corporate Planning and Risk Management), said.

Addressing the two-day international conference ‘Infrastructure Today’ here on Thursday, he said the company would construct an exclusive terminal for low-cost airlines.

On the operations at the airport, he admitted to that there were some glitches. But then it was quite common for new airports facing such problems. “As many as 43 agencies are involved. We had done 53 trials. But the moment of truth is when the first passenger arrived,” he said.

He said it would take a few weeks to get things stabilised.
