Our Bureau

Kochi, March 27 Jotun Group, a leading paint company, plans to strengthen its presence in Kerala by setting up 20 Jotun Multicolour outlets in the State by the end of the year to cater to the growing demand.

Attractive schemes

Mr Iype Koshy, Regional Manager (Kerala), said that the State is one of the biggest retail markets for the company and to tap the growing market, the company is offering attractive schemes to contractors.

Through the scheme, he said a contractor could earn fortune points on purchase of Jotun Paints in the scheme period.

At the end of the scheme, the contractor gets rewards based on the accumulated points.

Jotun India had set up the first shop in Kochi in 2005 with an intention of providing single source solution for all paints and coatings, he said.

Investments

Mr Lopesh Dalal, Marketing Manager, said that the company recently set up its first plant in Pune at an investment of $25 million with a capacity to produce up to 50 million litres of wet paint and 10,000 tonnes of powder coatings.

The company has a presence across 67 countries with over 40 manufacturing facilities worldwide which contributes annual revenues to the tune of $2 billion.

The company is targeting 8 per cent market share by 2010 as the Indian paint industry, valued at Rs 8,000 crore , is growing at 12 per cent per annum.

Consumption

He said that the per capita consumption of paints in India is very low at 0.8 kg per annum when compared with 4 kg in the South East Asian countries and 22 kg in developed countries.

The global average per capita consumption is 15 kg.

In India, the industrial paint segment accounts for 30 per cent of the paint market, while the decorative paint segment accounts for 70 per cent as against a global average of around 50:50, he said.
