CLW poised to hit target of 200 locos

Our Bureau

Kolkata, March 28 Chittaranjan Locomotive Works (CLW) has achieved the best-ever performance in its history in respect of loco during this financial year (2007-08) at nearly 200 electric locos. According to an official release here today, the highest number of finished loco dispatches at 165 numbers was achieved during 1997-98 and 1998-99.

According to Mr V. Shankar, General Manager, CLW, the higher production this year was largely made possible on account of higher productivity achieved by the “dedicated, skilled workforce” of CLW. He said CLW was now well positioned to achieve the production target of 200 electric locos in 2007-08.

Staff recognition

He said in recognition of this, the senior most retiring employees from the various manufacturing and supporting divisions were given the honour of flagging off the newly manufactured locos. The three types of electric locomotives put on the rails were WAP-4 (conventional passenger loco of 5,000 hp), WAG-9 (3-phase freight loco of 6,000 hp) and WAG-7 (conventional freight loco of 5,000 hp).

Lauding the efforts of officers, supervisors and staff of CLW for the achievement, Mr Shankar exhorted them to be ready for producing 220 and 250 locomotives in the next two financial years.
