Aspinwall in re-branding exercise

Our Bureau

Kochi, March 30 The Kochi-based Aspinwall & Co. Ltd, with 140 years of existence, has unveiled a new corporate identity by undertaking a re-branding exercise with a strategic business focus.

The company with a turnover of Rs 200 crore and a pan-India presence with 18 offices spread across the country, enjoys pioneering status in key industry segments like logistics, coffee, coir, plantation and tourism sectors.

Investment proposed

The company, as part of restructuring and development, has proposed to invest Rs 50 crore within one year across various segments. It is entering into a tie-up with Hitachi in the logistics segment. Already, the company is the shipping agent of Maersk Sealand. The company will also tap opportunities in clearing and forwarding services, barging and inland transportation, especially with the coming up of the Vallarpadam container trans-shipment terminal.

Aspinwall’s majestic old headquarters at Fort Kochi is being promoted into a heritage hotel by DLF. This marks Aspinwall’s foray into the tourism sector. Aspinwall is expecting increased demand for its specialty coffee – Monsooned Coffee. There are also plans for export of centrifuged rubber.

Unit in TN

In the coir sector, the company is setting up a unit at Pollachi in Tamil Nadu for developing value-added coir products for export. There are also plans to foray into green-house cultivation of coloured capsicum and other vegetables. The company expects growing demand for these items with more super-market chains coming up.

It was felt that the time has come for Aspinwall to take on a new identity and make its presence felt across the corporate landscape. Also, to tap the unfettered opportunities in the new era of globalised trade, the Aspinwall brand had to project dynamism and confidence with a contemporary look and feel. This led Aspinwall to undertake a major re-branding exercise, a press release issued here said.
