Four Seasons begins first crushing operations

Recently in Baramati, March 30 Nestled in the Sahyadri mountain range in Daund taluk of Pune is the Four Seasons winery of the UB group. Earlier in the week the winery commenced its first crushing.

Four Seasons would be launching six varieties by November. It has a target achieving of 50 lakh bottles in five years. Sparkling wines would be launched by 2009.

The operations of the winery would be under Four Seasons Wines Ltd, which is a joint venture between United Spirits Ltd (51 per cent) and the local farmers (49 per cent) of the region.

The Sharad Pawar family from Baramati would be supporting the venture by organising farmers and helping with the irrigation problems faced by farmers.

Interacting with media persons at the winery, Mr Vijay Mallya, Chairman of UB group said that wines in the past were synonymous with France. But that situation has changed; today wines from California in the US and South Africa have a good market share globally. The Indian wine manufactures can produce world-class wines. The wines produced by Four Seasons will not only cater to the growing India market but also overseas market.
