Calcutta High Court directive to Coal India
Kolkata, March 31
Mr Justice Nadira Patherya of Calcutta High Court
on Monday directed Coal India Ltd (CIL) to
complete the process for the takeover of Mining & Allied
Machinery Corporation Ltd (MAMC) by June this year.
Earlier, in October 2007, CIL and Damodar Valley
Corporation got the permission from Calcutta High Court
to take steps for taking over MAMC, to run it as a going
concern.
As directed by the High Court, CIL deposited a
bank guarantee of Rs 75 crore for the purpose of
preparing the groundwork for reopening of MAMC. CIL
on Monday filed a petition seeking time for such
reopening, which was allowed by the court. The matter
will next appear on June 9, 2008. - Our Bureau
