Aegis to buy AOL's call centre

Bangalore, March 31

Aegis BPO Services, an Essar group company, said on Monday it has agreed to buy AOL's call centre operation in Bangalore. The company declined to comment on the deal value, or the nature of the deal. The company said, according to the agreement, Aegis would provide customer service and technical support to AOL customers. The 1,000 odd employees of AOL's call centre would now become employees of Aegis, the company added. The acquisition is expected to close at the end of April.

Mr Aparup Sengupta, Managing Director and CEO, Aegis, said the deal would give the company more competence in the tech support area covering both voice and non-voice processes. Aegis would offer these services to other clients also, he added. Mr Maneesh Dhir, Executive Vice-President, AOL International, said the deal is in line with the company's focus of providing Web users content and services. He said the employees of AOL call centre would get similar salary at Aegis. - Our Bureau
