Employment States - Karnataka RUDSETI offers training to rural youths Our Bureau Mangalore, April 1 Considering the opportunities for semi-skilled persons in service and manufacturing sectors, the Rural Development and Self Employment Training Institute (RUDSETI) has started providing training programmes for wage-earning activities, in addition to self-employment training. The institute — jointly promoted by Syndicate Bank, Canara Bank and Shri Dharmasthala Manjunatheshwara Education Trust — has been able to train 612 candidates in the past two years in wage-earning activities. Addressing presspersons here on Tuesday, Mr I. Pardhasaradhi, General Manager of Syndicate Bank and one of the directors of the governing council of RUDSETI, said that huge opportunities are available in some of the industries where there is a requirement of semi-skilled persons. He said that some of the youths are averse to take risks and stay away from venturing into self-employment activities. In such a situation, wage-earning trainings will provide them an opportunity to work in the areas in which they were trained. Mr K.N. Janardhana, Executive Director of RUDSETI, told Business Line that the wage-earning training programme started two years ago. This year, all the 23 institutes across the country have been asked to provide two wage-earning training programmes. Start-upsDuring 2007-08, RUDSETI trained 16,059 unemployed youth to take up self-employment activity, Mr Pardhasaradhi said. Among them, 3,830 candidates were trained in agriculture and allied activities, 3,275 in small and micro industries, 4,300 in service enterprises and 4,654 in trade and general sectors. Of them, 47 per cent are women. During the last financial year, 12,332 candidates started their own enterprises. With this, the cumulative start-up rate stands at 68 per cent, he said. Centre careThe Union Ministry of Rural Development has released Rs 3.65 crore for development of infrastructure at five centres — Jaipur, Agra, Bhubaneshwar, Bhopal and Anantapur. Construction work on Bhubaneshwar centre will begin soon, he said. During 2007-08, three new institutes were opened at Baran in Rajasthan, Berhampore in West Bengal and Hajipur in Bihar. Importance will be given for stabilisation of these during the current financial year, he added. More Stories on : Employment | Rural Development | Karnataka
