Corporate taxes

This refers to the report “Direct tax collections top Rs 3 lakh cr” (Business Line, March 31). It’s heartening to note that ‘corporate taxes have since 2006-07 emerged as the single largest source of taxation for the Central Government’.

This is an indication that corporate investments, employment, turnover, and of course, profits are on the rise in the country.

But at the same time, one feels that successful companies can adopt some villages and do their bit in the latter’s development.

In fact, companies’ ‘social responsibility in business’ must be to ensure all-round socio-economic development of villages.
