Cisco’s new biz plan has strong regional focus

Indian market is diverse, says offical

V. Rishi Kumar

Hyderabad, April 1 Networking technology major Cisco has restructured its business strategy in the country to suit specific geographies and business clusters.

The new business structure has a strong regional focus that is backed by advisory services that come through what the company describes as Industry Business Councils (IBCs). The IBCs support regional sales teams with industry- specific solutions.

“The market in the Indian sub-continent is quite diverse and business varies from one region to another and the flavour changes within 500 km. Therefore, we now have an extremely geographical focussed entity,” Mr Pramodh Menon, Senior Vice-President, South and Sri Lanka, Cisco, said.

Mr Menon told Business Line the business is structured geographically with dedicated teams driving four regions, each with distinct areas of focus.

Customised services

For instance, in the South, the focus is on IT (knowledge-based industry), banking and financial services and manufacturing, while laying special thrust on industrial clusters of textiles in Coimbatore, automotive in Chennai and few manufacturing zones.

Bangalore, Chennai and Hyderabad have become a virtual triangle with heavy demand for services in IT and where small and medium businesses (SMBs) are making rapid strides. Therefore, there are about 18 products to suit them.

“By bringing local sensitivities and offering customised services, with a region and industry-specific solutions, we are able to offer them the perfect solution. For instance, an SMB is assessed based on number of computers rather than the number of employees it has. It may have few hundred employees as in a textile company, but has few computers,” he said.

Easy Lease plan

Referring to the company’s Easy Lease Plan, which has made swift inroads into the country helping small companies harness the power of technology to stay competitive, he said this complements “Networking services on subscription model” where a product of $5,000 will be offered on monthly subscription basis making it affordable.

Such changes have been brought about because the requirement of a company in Jalandhar is different from a company in Vizag and Coimbatore. But all of them require solutions that make their connectivity hassle-free. This is where IBCs help enterprises, he said.
