New Delhi, April 2

The Indian Patent Office has granted a record number of 15,262 patents during the fiscal 2007-08. This is more than double the number of patents granted (7,539) during the previous year and almost eight times the number of patents granted just three years ago in 2004-05 (1,911), according to an official release. The number of patent applications filed during the year has crossed the 35,000-mark. The surge in the number of patents granted is an outcome of modernisation of t he patent and other intellectual property rights offices across the country, the release added.
