Strategy TVS Motor to target car owners for scooter model
New Scooty: Mr Srinivas S. GM, Marketing TVS Motor Company, at the launch of TVS Electric Scooter ‘Scooty Teenz Electric’ in Bangalore on Wednesday. — Our Bureau Bangalore, April 02 TVS Motor Company said on Wednesday that it expects to tap car owners for its scooter model which is expected to be launched towards the end of 2008. TVS Motor Company’s General Manager for marketing Mr Srinivas. S. told Business Line that it expects a significantly higher profile of customers for its scooters and hence may not be confronted with loan defaults as was the case with some of the motor cycle customers. Mr Srinivas said though the market size of the entire scooter market was around 80,000 units a year, it will get more segmented as more players enter the market. “Currently it is a sort of one-size-fits-all kind of market. But we expect it will get more segmented or more niche based,” he said. Honda with a share of about 50 per cent leads the scooter market which is currently growing at around 17 per cent. TVS plans to manufacture its scooters at its Mysore plant which also makes Scooty mopeds. Mr Srinivas said the company also plans to upgrade the Scooty Pep models later this year. He said the company plans to sell between 50,000 units and 60,000 units of its electric scooter, Scooty Teenz Electric. He said the electric scooty would be suitable for those whose daily travel is around 15-25km per day. More Stories on : Strategy | Two/Three Wheelers
