Retailing States - Andhra Pradesh Raheja group’s Inorbit plans ‘Village’ mall K.V. Kurmanath Hyderabad, April 3 Bringing into India the internationally popular concept of value retail, Inorbit Malls, a Raheja group initiative, is introducing a ‘Village’ mall near here. Located 12 km away from Uppal, the first ‘Village’ value retail showroom at Pocharam would be positioned as a family destination, offering shopping experience, entertainment area and eateries. “The four-lakh sq ft facility will be a prototype for us. After studying this model, we will replicate this in other Indian cities,” Mr Rajiv Bhatia, Chief Executive Officer, told Business Line. Globally, stores like Dubai Outlet City (Dubai), Bicester Village (London) and Wertheim Village (Frankfurt) have become popular with shoppers. “You can go there in the morning and do your shopping, while your kids play. It will also have cultural shows, with popular artistes representing various streams performing there through out the year,” Mr Bhatia said, speaking on the concept of ‘Village’. ‘Distance not an issue’The Pocharam mall would be operational in August 2008. The mall developer is talking to local, national and international brands to set up shops. It would offer discounts in the range of 20-50 per cent. “We have conducted more than one survey. We found that people don’t mind travelling a bit provided they are assured of proper ambience,” he said. The mall is coming up not far from the Mindspace office space built by the Raheja group on the Warangal highway, ensuring them an immediate catchment area. Inorbit, which currently operates one mall in Malad (Mumbai) is planning to build 10 malls, including two each in Baroda, Pune and Hyderabad; and one each in Bangalore and Chennai.
