Automobile Components Auto parts body ties up with US institute Priyanka Vyas New Delhi, April 4 Automotive Component Manufacturers Association (ACMA) is collaborating with US-based Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) to provide a fillip to domestic component manufacturers’ product development and research capabilities. ACMA, the body representing over 500 component companies, would be taking a team of Indian CEOs to the institute. “ACMA has now been able to collaborate with MIT to boost the R&D and designing capabilities of Indian component vendors seeking to climb up the value chain. Around September-October, ACMA would be taking the first batch of 30-40 Indian CEO’s for training,” said Mr Arvind Kapur, Managing Director, Rico Auto and Chairman, Northern Region, ACMA. In a similar move, ACMA last week tied up with Indian School of Business, Hyderabad to help domestic companies get exposure to global logistics, manufacturing strategies and algorithms to empower them to compete with their overseas counterparts. The programme would be customised for their needs. “I think it has become just one market now. Programmes like these would help expose component makers companies to best global practices,” added Mr Kapur. The Indian auto component industry is estimated to be $18 billion in size and the total investments expected in the sector are likely to touch $20.9 billion by 2015.
