SAIL unit’s record output

Kolkata, April 5

The Raw Materials Division (RMD) of Steel Authority of India Ltd (SAIL) has achieved record production in 2007-08. RMD ended the fiscal 2007-08 with iron ore production of 18 million tonnes. This was an increase of 5.70 per cent over iron ore produced in 2006-07. According to a press release issued here by SAIL’s RMD, iron ore despatch in 2007-08 stood at 16.92 million tonnes, a growth of 4.19 per cent over the previous year. RMD mines at Gua, Bolani, Meghahatuburu a nd Kiriburu achieved best-ever production in 2007-08, recording a growth of 9.1 per cent, 8.7 per cent, 4.3 per cent and 4.2 per cent, respectively, over the previous year. Production at iron ore mines at Barsua and Manoharpur grew by 32 per cent and 30.7 per cent, respectively, over last year. SAIL’s RMD has targeted iron ore production of 42 million tonnes by 2010-11.
